Unbox the frame
Lift the frame out. If the front has a clear protective film, peel it off.

Pick your spot
Choose your height — eye level is a safe default. Hanging a set? Lay the pieces on the floor and arrange them first.

Mark the wall
Hold the frame where you want it, pencil a light mark, then measure down to where the hanger will sit.

Set the hook
Drive a nail or wall hook at your mark. The hangers are already attached to the back of the frame; the nail or hook is yours to supply.

Hang and level
Set the frame on the hook and nudge it until it sits level. A small level, or the level app on your phone, makes it quick.

Answers before you order
Will my print fit — and what does “matted to” mean?
Every frame is built to a standard print size — 4×6, 5×7, 8×10, 11×14, 16×20 and up — and the size in the name is the frame size, not the outer edge. “Matted to 8×10” means the mat window is cut for an 8×10 print inside an 11×14 frame; lift the mat out and the same frame takes an 11×14 print edge to edge.
Three numbers sit under the size picker on this page and follow whichever size you choose: the print size it displays, the true mat opening (about ¼ inch smaller than the print, so no edge shows) and the real outer size of the frame. Measure your print and match it to the print size — or to the frame size if you want it unmatted. The full pairing table is in the Size Guide.
Right size, guaranteed. If it still isn’t the size you needed, email help@americanflat.com within 30 days of delivery with your order number and the size you want. We send a prepaid return label and ship the new size at no extra cost — the original just needs to be unused and in its packaging.
Is the front glass or plexiglass?
It depends on the size. Most sizes have 1.0 to 1.2 mm plexiglass, and some smaller sizes have 2.0 mm shatter-resistant glass. A few sizes use standard glass.
How does it hang?
Hangers come already attached to the back: sawtooth hangers on most sizes and triangle hangers on some. You supply the nail or hook for your wall. A few mini sizes have no wall hanger.
What are your shipping and return policies?
Free standard shipping on orders $99+ under 100 lb within the contiguous United States. Under $99, you pay the live FedEx or USPS rate for your order, based on its size, weight and destination, shown at checkout before you pay. Orders of 100 lb or more ship by freight, from $99. Orders are typically processed within 1–2 business days and arrive in approximately 6–9 business days. See our Shipping Policy for details.
Eligible items may be returned within 30 days of delivery, unopened, unused and in their original packaging with the packing slip enclosed. Return shipping is your responsibility; you may purchase a flat $12.95 return shipping label from us. Original shipping charges are non-refundable. Refunds are issued to the original payment method within 7–10 business days after we receive your return. Washed or used items, final sale items and wall art cannot be returned. Is custom sizing available?
We focus on standard sizes rather than custom cuts — but the range is wide, from 4×6 up to 24×36 and larger, with matted options that fit most common prints. There's almost always a stock size for your photo.
